18 February 2012

On Saturday 18th of February at the terminal bulk liquid storage the company Vopak Terquimsa has in the Port of Barcelona the ship Margarita berthed at the new jetty 34 b to discharge 82.000 m3 of Jet A-1.

With an unload capacity of 2,600 m3/hr, the product has been stored in pit 10 with capacity to store 155,200 m3 of oil products distributed in four tanks at Vopak Terquimsa terminal in Muelle de Inflamables.

Pit 10 became operational in September last year. Its high technology and automation ensures the safety of people, installations and operations while maintaining the excellent quality of service.

Construction of the pit 10 has brought an investment of over 21 million of euros to the terminal in the Port of Barcelona enabling an increase in traffic. This has led to doubling Vopak Terquimsa’s terminal activity in the months the pit has been operation.

Vopak Terquimsa expects further growth in the Port of Barcelona with an investment of 11 million euros that will allow construction of a new pit of 18.000 m3 capacity to store chemical products.

Implementation of the new jetty allows the arrival of vessels of greater length in the Port of Barcelona making its offer more competitive.

It is the first time in the history of the Port of Barcelona that is downloaded at the same terminal such a quantity of product. This strengthens the role of hub of the Port of Barcelona.

For Vopak Terquimsa this has been a challenge that helped to keep the company a leader in its sector throughout Western Mediterranean achieving its growth expectations.
