PORT OF TARRAGONA AND VOPAK TERQUIMSA JOINTLY PARTICIPATE IN THE 2020 EUROPEAN VIRTUAL CONFERENCE OF PETROCHEMICAL S&P GLOBAL PLATTS

05 November 2020

Port of Tarragona and Vopak Terquimsa participate jointly in the S&P Global Platts 2020 virtual European petrochemical conference. What was previously a meeting in European capitals with two-day conferences, now, due to the health situation, has become in a virtual meeting of experts in the field for one day.

The objective of this conference is to know and share the ideas of the key players in the industry and how the sector is adapting to these new times: volatility in ascending markets and blockages to control the coronavirus pandemic that have caused a disruption in demand. Many petrochemical industries have been affected but, at the same time, the need for medical equipment has opened the door to new opportunities.

The presence of the Port of Tarragona together with Vopak Terquimsa will take place at a conference entitled Risk mitigation and security of supply chain in an uncertain year. The commercial coordinator of the Port of Tarragona for this type of traffic, Jordi Anglès and Josep Forcadell, commercial director of Vopak Terquimsa, will participate in it.

The Port of Tarragona and Vopak Terquimsa will be present to promote their facilities and their interest in being a regional hub for liquids in one of the most important events in the European field of the petrochemical products sector, such as the Platts EU Virtual Petrochemical Conference.

Southern Europe logistics hub

Catalonia, and especially the ‘Camp de Tarragona’ area, is one of the main logistics hub for the production, storage and distribution of petrochemical products in southern Europe. The strategic location and advanced infrastructures allow it to respond to any logistical need with an efficient distribution of all types of petrochemical products by ships, train, truck or pipelines.

The group of companies in the chemical and petrochemical industry of Tarragona generate an annual production of 20 million tons, which represents 50% of the production of Catalonia and 25% of the entire State.

The Port of Tarragona offers a diversified storage service. The investment made in the quay of the Chemical, has allowed to double the surface of the Port dedicated to the storage of liquids in bulk in the last years.
